First lady to headline a star-powered NYC fundraiser
So much for Motion Picture Association of America President Chris Dodd's threat of Hollywood turning off the money spigot in the wake of the Obama administration's refusal to back the industry's anti-online piracy bill: A constellation of stars is scheduled to join first lady Michelle Obama on Monday for a New York fundraiser to benefit her husband's campaign. The event, which will take place in a trendy Italian restaurant in TriBeCa is expected to draw Robert De Niro, Grace Hightower De Niro, Whoopi Goldberg, Angela Bassett, Star Jones, Tina Knowles, Tonya Lewis Lee, Lynn Whitfield, and Alfre Woodard.
Seeing all those celebrities doesn’t come cheap: Price of the photo and cocktail reception: $5,000. For $25,000, one can host the event, and "greet" the first lady and her entourage.
The proceeds will go to the Obama Victory Fund 2012, which then is pooled by Obama for America, the Democratic National Committee and 10 state Democratic parties. In February, the committee reported over $100 million in total receipts.
