No room for us at “widely attended” Qwest party

We’re just back from a party thrown by Qwest CEO Ed Mueller at the Denver Art Museum’s Palletes restaurant. Designed to be a “widely attended event” under the new ethics law, according to the invitation, apparently it wasn’t so widely attended that they were prepared to allow me in. (To meet the “widely attended” loophole, the event must have at least 25 attendees who are not members of Congress, and there must be some official business for the lawmaker attending, among other conditions.)

Johanna Hoff, a spokesperson for Qwest, politely explained to us that the event was “private,” that she really didn’t have any details about what they were serving or who was on the guest list. I mentioned that since the invitation specifically said the event was designed to be “widely attended,” it seemed like some members of Congress would be attending, but again, she pleaded ignorance.

She confirmed that yes, Qwest is supporting both the Democratic and the Republican conventions, because the company considers both Democrats and Republicans alike to be its “customers.”

We got some great footage on video , which will be available via our twitter account-www.twitter.com/SFPartytime as soon as Qik.com comes back up.

Not to sound like your mom, Party Hostess, but: what are you wearing as you try to crash these parties? Dressing like Mrs. Kucinich won’t get you anywhere. How big are your fake pearls? What about the strategy of dressing like a rich donor and striding right in?

-Went to a Fundraiser Once (but it was on the left coast–probably doesn’t count)

Actually, it was a fundraiser for whales.

Now having watched the video, I will say that although the green suits you, it’s not a color on the Official Michelle- Hillary Pantsuit Palette. I vote for Democratic Blue!

I agree with the comment above: in the influence peddling industry, you have to dress for success… dressing like a hippie or a beatnik or a beach bum or a communist or a socialist, or like somebody laid back with a creative job at Microsoft, or especially like Ralph Nader, it won’t get your foot in the door… the influence peddlers/buyers, right away when they see Ralph Nader types, they say to themselves “there’s no sale here, maybe even a bust!”

By the way, I’m pretty sure there are still a few Democrats who dress like Ralph Nader, just not so many as there used to be: they look much more affluent and sharply dressed now it seems, like Steny Hoyer.

And that’s a hoot, what the Qwest gatekeeper said, about these convention parties being for “customers”… you should have presented your inflated Verizon bill to them, as proof that you too are a “customer”

“Umm… I meant to say customers who write and administer the Laws, and particularly the telecommunications Regulations, of the United States.”
